It’s been mentioned in
better essays than this one, but it bears repeating that Tsuna starts out with a tiny bit of a boycrush on Yamamoto.
Yamamoto is a cool dude and Tsuna knows it. It doesn’t take that long for their initial impressions of each other to flip, just a little. Yamamoto, who thinks Tsuna’s a loser underneath the recent improvements he’s been making, finds that he really
is surprisingly cool and tougher than he thought at first. And Tsuna, who thinks Yamamoto’s a cool popular guy, starts discovering that his new friend is actually a complete screwball with a stupid sense of humor.
Everyone is a better person for knowing this. In a number of ways, their canon development is growing to meet each other in the middle, with Yamamoto embracing Tsuna’s strengths and Tsuna becoming aware of (and accepting) Yamamoto’s weaknesses.
